Ribbon Cutting for Flag Retirement Pit at Clarence Darrow MetroPark

On Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 3 pm at Clarence Darrow MetroPark we will be having a ribbon cutting/ceremony for a flag retirement pit. The pit was installed as part of an Eagle Scout project by Blaine Helmuth of Boy Scout Troop 4075. Trumbull County MetroParks Operations Director Zachary Svette stated, “This project done by Blaine is a first of its kind in Trumbull County and will help serve as way of retiring the flags collected by various civic organizations throughout Trumbull County.”

Boy Scout Completes Eagle Scout Project at Foster MetroPark

In April and May 2017, B.J. Thomas of Boy Scout Troop 112 reconstructed a planter box, painted the existing kiosk and planted a tree row, to help him earn his Eagle Scout rank. Trumbull County MetroParks Operations Director Zachary Svette stated, “Eagle Scout projects like B.J. Thomas’s help complete projects within Trumbull County that otherwise might not get done.”

CONSTRUCTION COMMENCING ON IMPROVEMENTS TO NORTH ROAD NATURE PRESERVE TRAILHEAD PARKING LOT

The Trumbull County Metro Parks District is happy to announce that improvements to the North Road Nature Preserve Trailhead parking lot in the city of Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio will be starting on Monday, March 27, 2017. The project proposes to reconstruct the existing parking lot and access drive located at the northeast corner of the Candlelight Drive/Harvard Drive intersection. The parking lot will remain closed during construction and will re-open once construction is complete. For Immediate Release March 16, 2017.

On Wednesday, January 4, 2017, Steven D. Maas was sworn in for a 3-year term on the Trumbull County Metropolitan Park Board commencing January 1, 2017 and ending on December 31, 2019 by Trumbull County Probate Judge James A. Fredericka.

The Fall 2016 Photo Contest

is underway in partnership with Trumbull County Soil and Water District. Every season we will run a new contest for the best picture at Trumbull County MetroParks Park or Property. Starting September 1, 2016 we will be accepting photos for the Summer season with a deadline of 2 pm on November 30, 2016. All the rules and regulations for the contest which will be posted on the MetroParks website at www.trumbullmetroparks.org

Each season people will need to email photos to: Zachary.svette@trumbullmetroparks.org.

To be eligible for our photo contest, the email must say what park and the date the picture was taken.

At the end of season, finalists will be chosen and sent to be judged by our Facebook fans. One photo per season will be declared the winner.

Winning photos will be published on our website, via our social media outlets and in some cases, in our publications. Winners also receive a Trumbull MetroParks and Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District prize pack.

TRUMBULL COUNTY METRO PARKS DISTRICT TO PROVIDE IMPROVEMENTS TO CANOE CITY TRAILHEAD PARKING LOT

The Trumbull County Metro Parks District plans to provide improvements to the Canoe City Trailhead parking lot in Warren Township, Trumbull County, Ohio. The project proposes the resurfacing of the existing parking lot and entrance drives.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT. The proposed project will not impact any cultural resources, suspect hazardous waste sites or result in impacts to ecological resources. The project will not result in substantial impacts to the environment either individually or cumulatively. In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended (codified as 36 CFR 800), Trumbull County Metro Parks requests information regarding the presence of any known cultural resources in the vicinity of the project. Cultural resources include prehistoric and historic archaeological sites, historic bridges, historic buildings, sites and districts.

The park property improvement is scheduled for construction in the spring of 2017. The estimated construction cost is approximately $28,500. During construction, the existing Canoe City Trailhead parking lot will be closed for a maximum of 7 days.

Ride with the Trumbull County Commissioners

On Saturday, September 17, 2016, the Trumbull County Commissioners and Trumbull County MetroParks are proud to announce the second annual Ride with the Commissioners on the Western Reserve Greenway. Starting at 9:00 am there will be refreshments at the Sunside Trailhead, on State Route 305, and then at approximately 10:00 am riders and the Commissioners will depart south to ride the Paul E Heltzel portion of Western Reserve Greenway (Phase 3) approximately a 7 mile bike ride.

In 2015, Commissioner Polivka rode the event with the participants and stated, “It’s a great event to showcase our 16.8 miles of bike trail and the natural resources that surround it.” He said, “This year he challenges his other Commissioners to ride at least 5 miles.” Commissioner Cantalamessa who attend but was unable ride stated that,“ He would like to see the event grow, to increase the popularity of the Western Reserve Greenway just not for Trumbull’s portion but for the Cities of Warren and Niles.”

Disc golf discs available for group use


The Trumbull County Metro Parks District is proud to announce the availability of Disc Golf Discs for groups to use for free. The discs were made available from a donation from Dillon Green as part of his Eagle Scout project with the Boy Scouts. Groups interested in borrowing the discs need to do the following:

      1. Submit Request/User Form: Fill out-completely
        1. Additional Info Required:
          i. Number of Individuals in group
          ii. Copy of driver’s license
      2. Once Approved
        1. Meet with staff to receive discs
        2. Initial for receipt of number of discs
      3. Returning Discs
        1. Meet with staff to return discs
        2. Initial for return of number of discs along with employee
